Canis Major

Notify me when this product is available:

Handmade, wheel-thrown icy blue bowl with matte white on stoneware. Oval, hand-altered shape. The design is created when the glazes melt into an irregular pattern in the gas kiln - making it truly one-of-a-kind.

Canis Major is Latin for "greater dog", in contrast to Canis Minor, the "lesser dog"; both figures are commonly represented as following the constellation of Orion the hunter. In Greek Mythology, Canis Major represented the dog Laelaps, a gift from Zeus to Europa.

The perfect deep bowl for a box of satsumas, a large salad, or a family-size pasta dinner. Not recommended for oven use. Pomegranates not included.

Matte glazes should not have prolonged contact with typically staining foods. Visit FAQ for care instructions.

Ceramic dimensions approximately 3.5" H x 7.5"L x  9.5" W.
